MAURIZIO MONTI
Maurizio Monti born in 1951 in St. Sophia, province of Forlì.
Since he was e child the drawing had e great appeal for him and for this he construct his own world, becoming estranged from the reality. He didn’t behave like boys of the same age; for example he didn’t like to play “the war”, he preferred to draw it.
He filled up all the white papers he could find with boundless battles: hundred and hundred of figthing little soldiers may be a presentiment of the difficulties he had in the end of this childhead. With a box of coloured pencils, gift of his parents, he discovered the painting and this passion pushed him to make a copy of the frescoes of “Cappella Sistina” when he was only ten years old.
In 1968 he won his first competition and started to exhibit his pictures in collective and personal exhibitions knowing the painting was what he wanted to do in his adult world.
In 1970 he took the art teachers’s diploma and in 1971 entered, like freelance, in the graphic advertising’s field.
In the same period working like designer, he ranged over the fields of fashion, furnishings, ornaments and plain fair’s stands. He couldn’t bear the cages imposed by business on him, so he deserted every thing and moved by his innate restlessness, leaved in nitch-hiking to a mental travel, more than else.
This nomadism forced him to do each kind of job till he founded the better for him: the “Madonnaro”. Painting pavements and refining his gift for painting, during some years, he covered the streets of Italy and almost all Europe.
Forced by liability to military service, he had to return to his place of origin. At the end of military service, his creativity pushed him to follow another of his passion: the music.
The profession of musician gave him the possibility to be completely free in his artistic choices and he developed a very personal pictorial technique out of each current.
In 1980 he had the first international reward: the prize of President at the VI° European Biennal at Strasbourg, prize that opened him the doors of public and private collections.
Though coultivating music as a way of expression, and with more of one hundred exhibitions, since 1998 he devote himself to painting, realizing what that for him. “It’s not a choice... it’s my destiny”.
